Jackie Robinson Family YMCA: 2009 NCRC presents Peacemaker Award Local Honoree La Chanae McAfee

La Chanae McAfee is a Day Camp Youth Leader at our YMCA and will receive one of ten $2000 college scholarships at our 13th Annual Tribute to Jackie Robinson and Scholarship Gala on April 18th, 2009. Sixteen year old La Chanae organized a march & rally to honor two teens, Donnell Davis Jr. and Brandon Johnson, killed in Bonita in March 2008. She is a local San Diego honoree for the Peacemaker Award from the National Conflict Resolution Center. “We’re here today because our community is broken in too many pieces… Today is the day we’re going to stand up. It makes no sense that people can’t walk to school and have no peace.
