Mario Armstrong shares an inside view of the national BDPA high school computer competition (HSCC) and also interviews national HSCC coordinator Danna Sturdivant. BDPA conducts youth education training over a nine-month period that concludes with the top five students from up to 51 chapters competing in the National BDPA High School Computer Competition for college scholarships and prizes. The program is open to 8th-12th grade students. The students are not required to have prior computer training to participate in the program. The national competition is divided into three parts: Team Q&A, Individual Written Exam and Team Programming. The focus fo the 7-hour programming section is on teamwork, presentation skills, advanced problem-solving and time management. Here is a video of the intense programming action taken from the 2008 national championships held in Atlanta GA. Much of the funding for this youth education initiative … including scholarships for the top teams … comes from the BDPA Education & Technology Foundation. We seek your support!
